Netherlands Show, Hilversum  (2011)

September 2011
Stephen Harlan Unveils Pointed North in Exhibition in the Netherlands.Twenty of Harlan's works were selected for a two month exhibition in Krimpen ann den IJssel. North Carolina artist Stephen James Harlan recently unveiled his new piece titled, Pointed North at a solo exhibition in the Netherlands. More than twenty of Stephen's works will be on exhibition September through October 2011 in Holland. The Arts Council of of Krimpen aan den IJssel selected Stephen's work after seeing several pieces in the World Trade Center at Schiphol in Amsterdam. Chris Konijnendijk, gallery owner of First Class Art in the Netherlands welcomed Stephen Harlan and wife Martha at the opening event. "We are pleased to be representing Harlan in Holland, his work is so vibrant, there is nothing like this in the European market", stated Konijnendijk, "Harlan's work draws people into the exhibit, even our younger collectors are excited about the subject matter and style of Stephen's work." First Class Art also featured Harlan's work at an exhibition at Kudelstaartseweg, September 9, 10 and 11 at Kunstbeleving aan de Westeinderplassen.
Harry and Betty Mock represent Harlan Editions in Europe. At the opening ceremony Harry thanked the Arts Council of Krimpen aan den IJssel and shared comments about Stephen's background and style. "We fell in love with Stephen's work while on holiday in the United States. On a recent trip to Key West we purchased several pieces and made the decision to invite Stephen to join the talent we represent in Europe. Stephen's vibrant colors and unique technique are like no other artist we know. The lighting and reflections in his work are so dynamic. We are pleased to represent his work on canvas and the new aluminum is even more unique", stated Mock. Stephen James Harlan moved to Carolina Beach, North Carolina several years ago where he lives with his wife Martha. Stephen and Martha are originally from Florida. After they married they moved to Los Angeles, California where Stephen focused on his art. Having a desire to be closer to family, the Harlan's moved to Maryland where they raised their two daughters Danielle and Samantha Harlan. When a new career opportunity was offered to Martha, they decided to move to the Wilmington area. "My wife and I recently build a home in the Wilmington area, my studio is located in our home. This area is so beautiful, a constant source of inspiration", says Harlan.
Harlan currently has "Midnight" on aluminum in the exhibition at the Cameron Art Museum's show State of the Art - Art of the State in Wilmington, N.C.
Harlan is represented by galleries across the United States from Carmel, California to Key West , Florida and in Europe and New Zealand. Harlan's upcoming exhibitions include:
